National Library Week History
National Library Week is a special time in April when we celebrate libraries and the amazing people who work there. Started in 1958 by the American Library Association, it's a chance to show love for all kinds of libraries, like ones in schools, communities, and universities. During this week, we say thank you to librarians and encourage everyone to visit and use their local library.
Back in the 1950s, people were spending less money on books and more on radios, TVs, and musical instruments, which worried the American Library Association (ALA) and book publishers. They teamed up to create the National Book Committee in 1954, aiming to encourage reading and improve people's lives.
This committee planned the first National Library Week in 1958 with help from the ALA and the Advertising Council, using the theme "Wake Up and Read!" It was a big hit, so they did it again the next year, and the ALA decided to keep doing it every year after that. When the National Book Committee ended in 1974, the ALA took over running National Library Week.
"Todd Time" Study Hall
You may go to the library during your study hall, but first, make sure to get permission from your teacher and the library staff at school.
After School Sign Up
If you want to stay at the library after school, ask Mr. Sarubbi first. Just signing up here doesn't mean you can stay after school at the library. Before you sign up, make sure to read what's expected of you after school in the Google Form.
Refocus, Re-center, Relax
In partnership with the school psychologist and guidance counselors, we welcome to our library space, a special area to refocus, re-center and relax.
